Hi, I'm
Jilu David

I am a qualified Psychiatric Social Worker and a Therapist trained from NIMHANS, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
My journey into mental health began with a postgraduate degree in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. As an M. Phil. trainee, further specialising in Psychiatric Social Work at NIMHANS, managing clinical population helped sharpen my skills as a mental health social worker, and to also evolve as a person with empathy and compassion.
Soon after, I went on to becoming a Psychiatric Social Work consultant with the Department of Psychiatry at St. John's Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru for three years. Being a part of a multidisciplinary team with psychiatrists, psychologists and psychiatric nurses, my role was to provide psychosocial interventions, family interventions, couples' therapy, and individual therapy for clients with various vulnerabilities.
I have been an independent practitioner of therapy since 2022 and I launched therapyspace to create a globally accessible platform that offers mental health services.
I have also completed online training in Trauma-Informed Psychological Interventions and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and continue to attend other workshops as part of continuing education.
I am queer-friendly, and I provide tailor-made therapy according to the client needs.

Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy is an avenue for persons seeking change within themselves. For us humans, it can be difficult to ask for help from other humans- especially in a fast-paced world where we are increasingly pressured to be hyper-independent, forced to turn away from connections.
At therapyspace, individual therapy will welcome you to gently look within yourself, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and work towards your unique personal goals, and develop meaningful connections with yourself and your loved ones.

Family Therapy
Of course, relationship difficulties are not exclusive to couples. We are most often surrounded by our family members who we love and who love us, but how many of us have had repeated rows with our parents because they didn't understand our needs? Strained relationships with our siblings? Relatives' comments driving us over the edge? Many of us face challenges with our family members or our close relatives for various reasons- but, we don't have to wait too long to work on repairing and improving our relationship with our primary support systems.
therapyspace offers families that helpful and non-judgmental zone allowing safe and guided communication, to discuss conflicts, different perspectives, and effective problem solving skills.

Relationships can be hard, that's common knowledge; but they don't always have to feel that way. Whether a relationship is merely months old or decades in, conflicts can occur just because the partners are different people. Sometimes, though we function properly as individuals, when we become someone's significant other, things can change. Some of us find this change difficult to navigate.
therapyspace offers a haven for partners to safely speak out about their concerns, and find ways to move forward with professional guidance.
Couples Therapy

As the world becomes increasingly aware of the importance of stable mental health, many of us are also learning the long-lasting effect of traumatic events or exposure to trauma on our lives. Often as we look back, we recognise different forms of trauma that we may have experienced (although not all adversities can or should be labelled trauma).
If you feel like you have experienced trauma, and would like to explore more about how these life-changing events have made an impact on you, get in touch. At therapyspace, the therapy approach is gentle and trauma-informed. As you navigate these difficult experiences, you will be supported generously and with kindness, in an emotionally safe space.

Specialities
Persons with mental health issues like Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Substance Use Disorders etc., often have better prognosis, improved functionality, increased insight into their illness, better illness management skills, and an overall improved quality of life, when their treatment is supplemented with therapy.
The impact a mental health issue can make in a person's everyday life, their work, their relationships and other aspects can be immense if left untreated. At therapyspace, a holistic approach is taken towards helping persons with mental health issues.

Parenting Difficulties
Navigating the complicated process of parenting is a task that not everyone is prepared for. In fact, it is said that parents are born the same day that a baby is! (Of course, that just means that the couple turn into parents overnight, which is technically true.) Parenting children of any age can be a daunting task. Children and adolescents often present with behavioural and emotional issues, which usually result from poor parenting skills (though not always).
At therapyspace, clients are helped to explore various facets of parenting, identify issues, and are provided assistance as they gently start to learn effective parenting skills.

Oof, where do we even start with this topic? Stress is everywhere we look- work, relationships, families, friends, even social media. In the speedy rat race, we often forget to take care of ourselves and we eventually burn out. Stress is a part of normal life, but we tend to overlook the fact that stress management also needs to be a part of normal life.
At therapyspace, you will receive gentle guidance into the slow paced world of stress management and caring for the self effectively, from a deeper level. Burn out no more!
